What to expect at your lesson.8/9/2021 DURING YOUR LESSON:
Each learning trajectory will be different depending on your needs, goals and interests. I encourage and help all students to develop a musical ear. I encourage students to learn to read music, although I don't insist upon it in every circumstance. I have a large music library to share with you, as well, I make recordings and transcribe songs and pieces if necessary. I am happy to explore any musical genre with you. PRACTICE: You should commit to practicing every week between lessons. Ideally, this should be at least five days a week for 20 to 30 minutes each practice. However, some practice is always better than none, as it will keep you engaged in learning and progressing. AT MY STUDIO: Please be on time for your lesson as there is no available waiting area. We will be starting and finishing on time. Please note, I live with a tiny, friendly hypoallergenic dog and a cat. PARENTS: It's great when parents are active participants in their child's learning by supporting their at-home practice. You are welcome to stay and observe your child's lesson, but it's important that you resist the urge to instruct your child alongside me or prompt them to behave in a certain way. This can disrupt the learning process, of which self-correction is a vital part. It can also be confusing for the learner and undermine their confidence. PAYMENT: Payment is required monthly, in advance, by etransfer. Lessons missed without 24-hours notice will not be refunded or made up. Lesson cancellations are limited to two per semester, and I will make every reasonable effort to make up the lesson, provided more than 24-hours is given for the cancellation. STUDENT CONCERTS: At the end of each semester, child learners and their families will be invited to participate in an informal student concert. EXAMS: I am happy to help you to prepare for RCM exams if desired.
